1. What is UptimeAlarm.com?
    UptimeAlarm.com is a remote Website monitoring service designed to keep its subscribers informed as to the status of their website or webserver in the event that it fails to become reachable.

    If your Website or Webserver should go down, for whatever reason, our system will send an email alert to any email account, cell phone, pager and/or PDA that you choose. UptimAlarm will even inform your ISP that we cannot reach your Website.

    In addition, UptimeAlarm provides you with a personal Webpage with the last known status of your Website, which is made graphically apparent. In the event your Website becomes unreachable, an audible alarm sounds. You are given complete control over your monitor settings and preferences, and provided with weekly statistics regarding the uptime of your Website.

11. I have a limited amount of bandwidth per month. How much is required?
    Under normal circumstances, UptimeAlarm.com checks your Website once per hour, 24 hours a day. The check we do is a HEAD request, which means we only request INFORMATION on the page, not the page itself. We do not download images, multimedia content, or any other content from your Website. This means that UptimeAlarm.com's total bandwidth usage per month is very low.

    To be more precise;

    Our HEAD request is approximately 100 bytes (incoming).
    Your server's response to our request will be approximately 300 bytes (outgoing).

    100 bytes X 24 times a day X 30 days a month = 72,000 bytes of incoming traffic
    300 bytes X 24 times a day X 30 days a month = 216,000 bytes of outgoing traffic

    Given that the average size of a Web page (with no images) is 28k, Internetseer's monitoring traffic is equivalent to only serving about 10 pages per month.
Note: These number hold true only if your Website is up and operating correctly the entire month. If we detect problems with your site, we do multiple checks using GET requests, which will use additional bandwidth.

12. Your checks are skewing my Website access logs. What can I do?
    Under normal circumstances, UptimeAlarm.com checks your Website 24 times a day. That's a total of approximately 720 hits per month. Most people do not consider this a significant number of hits, considering that commercial Website receive tens if not hundreds of thousands of hits per month.

    If you desire to exclude UptimeAlarm.com from your access logs, we use the user agent "UptimeAlarm.com". There should be documentation with your specific access reporting product that will instruct you how to exclude us from your logs.
Note: These number hold true only if your Website is up and operating correctly the entire month. If we detect problems with your site, we do multiple checks using GET requests, which will use additional bandwidth.
